What is the difference between Shelly1 and Shelly2?

Shelly 1 has one channel with 16A maximum load and external pins for flashing. Shelly 2 is a dual channel relay with 8A maximum current per channel and it also has a power measurement function but measures the total consumption by the two relays. The Shelly 1 is the only product that has clean contacts (also called dry contacts).

What is the difference between Shelly1 and Shelly1PM?

Shelly 1 PM has power metering, but on the other hand, Shelly 1 has external pins for flashing and clean contacts. Shelly1PM does not have clean contacts (also called dry contacts). In addition, Shelly1PM has temperature and overload protection.

Is there another Shelly2? What is the difference to the Shelly2.5?

The Shelly2.5 completely replaces the Shelly2. It has separate power measurement for each relay, maximum load is 10A per channel, built-in temperature and overload protection, external antenna for better range, smaller form factor than Shelly2. The Shelly2.5 has two connections, L and L1. To achieve the full load capacity of 10A per channel, both should be connected to the LINE/HOT line of the switch. Internally they are connected to each other.

What can I do if I can’t set up my Shelly using the Phone app?

First, make sure that no devices are set to automatically switch to an open network as this could interfere with the setup process. Perform a factory reset and try again with the app. Note: The SSID in your home WiFi must be between 3 and 36 characters long. The password is limited to a maximum of 33. Certain special characters in the SSID and password are not allowed: €,@,$ and the underscore(_) as examples, at least for the password. Apparently “!” is not allowed in an SSID.

Try using a computer or phone with a browser instead. After a factory reset, the Shelly creates its own WLAN network with the SSID Shelly-XXXXXX. Connect to this network and use your browser to connect to h t t p : / / 192 . 168 . 33 . 1 /. You can then configure the Shelly. We recommend using a static IP address (this is covered in another guide). Once the Shelly device is set up on your network, it will be recognised by the Phone app.

The Shelly device is switched on but is shown as offline in the Cloud application.

Try to solve this problem step by step. First restart your router and/or access point and check if the connection is restored. If the unit is still offline, perform a factory reset (on/off 5 times or press a button briefly 5 times within one minute of switching on). You should hear a quick click of the relay. You will then need to add the unit to your account again. If you have problems adding it, make sure you enter your SSID and password correctly and also check that your router is operating on 2.4 GHz. When everything is verified, check the address assigned to the Shelly device by your router and enter it in your browser. Click Restart Device on the interface and refresh the page if you see any changes.

My machine periodically has problems with the WiFi connection.

Make sure your device has the latest firmware version. If the device is online, go to the device settings, click on “Device information” and check the status of the WiFi signal the device is receiving. If it is a poor signal, that could be one reason for the disconnections. Another reason could be that you are trying to use a repeater device. Check that the router and repeater are generating the same SSID and what signal range they are operating in – 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz (Shelly devices only operate at 2.4Ghz). If the unit is offline, perform the reset procedure according to the instructions in the user manual and then set up a static IP address. A static IP improves stability, but note that the IP addresses must be outside the DHCP range. For example, if your DHCP range is, you must set an IP address below this range. Also set your default gateway IP address.

How can I check the RSSI signal?

There are 2 ways to check the RSSI signal. The first way is to go into the device settings and click on the Device Information tab. You need to look for the WiFi signal data. The next option is to get the IP address of the Shelly device and enter it into the PC browser http://ShellyIP/status. From there you can observe what your current signal is in dBm.

I cannot connect my device to my home network in the app.

There are several reasons for an unsuccessful attempt to connect a Shelly device to your home network and the Shelly App.

1) Pay attention to the length of your SSID and password. It must be between 3 and 36 characters long.

2) The app is case sensitive when entering this information. Make sure you are case sensitive in the SSID and password.

3) Check your router settings. Make sure your router is NOT blocking UDP traffic. Remove IP isolation/SSID isolation/Mac filtering if they are enabled in your router settings.

4) Check what frequency your router supports. Shelly devices only use the 2.4GHz signal. If both are enabled but you still can’t add devices, try temporarily disabling the 5Ghz channel.

How to control Shelly devices via Alexa/Google Home ?

Activate the Cloud via the Shelly App or Web UI, add the Alexa or Google Home Skill and link your account to Alexa or Google.

I cannot add my device to the Cloud

Restart your router and try adding the device again. If the device is still not added successfully, check the IP address of the Shelly device and enter it into the web browser. Then, when the WebUI loads, check the right corner to see if the Time tab is working. If not, it means that your device has no internet connection and the problem could be in the default gateway, firewall, DNS, etc.

How can I edit/delete my rooms?

The calibration does not work

Make sure that the unit displays power consumption during shutter movements. Then open the unit settings and increase the opening/closing time from the default 20s to 60-90s and try the calibration function again. Log in to the application with the credentials.

The channels are displayed separately in the application. This means that they are independent and you can create different scenes for the different channels.

I forgot my password for the application, when I click the reset password button I don’t get an email.

Make sure you are entering the login details for the Shelly application account, not the shelly.cloud website. If everything is filled in correctly and you don’t receive an email, check the SPAM tray of your email client.

How do I install the BETA firmware on my machine?

How do I get the IP address or device ID of a Shelly device?

For devices already added in the Shelly APP, you can find the device IP in the Shelly APP under the device, settings and “DEVICE INFORMATION”.

Can I use a Shelly without a neutral wire?

My Shelly H&T shows different temperatures than another device. Is that accurate?

The Shelly may show a higher temperature if you have held it in your hand or have just gone through the configuration process. Set it to send updates less frequently (more than .5˚ and perhaps disable the humidity trigger) and leave it undisturbed for 30 minutes, then compare again. A little more background: the device, small as it is, can be affected by the temperature of its own circuits. If it sleeps between measurements, it returns to room temperature. Then it wakes up and quickly takes an accurate measurement. If it was awake during the configuration process or firmware update, an accurate measurement is not possible.

The battery of my Shelly H&T is running out.

Updating it every time there is a small change or on a frequent schedule will dramatically affect battery life. Try settings like 1˚, no humidity-triggered updates and a 6-hour schedule. If the Shelly is in an environment where the temperature control changes frequently, such as a freezer or refrigerator, this will also negatively affect battery life. Consider an even higher temperature setting for the update trigger or schedule more frequent battery changes.

Find Shelly H&T in the network

The H&T sleeps between scheduled readings and returns to sleep immediately when no humidity and temperature report is needed. To make changes to the settings, you can wake up the H&T by removing the cover and pressing the red button next to the battery.

Why is the Shelly 1 called “open source”?

The Shelly 1 is able to run open source code such as Tasmota without voiding the warranty. It has exposed programming headers, so there is no need to break open the case. That is the extent of what “open source” means in relation to the Shelly 1.

Can I use a dimmer knob as a “SW” input for my Shelly1 or Shelly2.5?

No. This is not advisable. The only thing that should be connected is an on/off switch or push button, between the SW and L inputs of a Shelly1 or Shelly2.5. A dimmer connected to the SW input would never allow dimming, as the Shelly products use a relay to simply switch the load on or off.
